Where to purchase an Air Conditioner
AirConUSA brings special offers from air conditioner manufacturers, wholesalers and distributorsTemperature Control are always getting asked what can you do with R22 now and after the phase out date.
What to do now?
Do you have any new R22 in storage? If you do use it now, as after 1st January 2010 it will be illegal to use it on any air conditioning or refrigeration equipment.
The use of reclaimed refrigerants will not be illegal after the phase out date in 2010, so why not replace the refrigerant in your current system and get the refrigerant you take out cleaned up and store this for future use?
Don't think you can store virgin R22 and use it beyond 2009, it is illegal to use after the phase out date. Do you want to risk being caught using virgin R22? Can your company's reputation with stand the bad publicity?
Can you put reclaimed refrigerant straight into another system?
If you reclaim the refrigerant from a system in the same premises, you can reuse this in a system within that same building. If you want to use it at another site, then you have to send it off to an authorised dealer and have the refrigerant cleaned up, before you can use it.
But the question is, why would you put "dirty" refrigerant into an expensive air conditioning system? Would you drain the oil from one car and reuse it in your own? I very much doubt it as it is full of contaminants; this is the same for refrigerants. Tests show that reclaimed refrigerant gases contain high moisture levels, non condensable gases, oil and acid. These can damage your air conditioning system and reduce it's operational life.
Can I save the R22 I remove and use it in the future?
We all know that budgets have been cut to replace R22 equipment. This is why it is important to manage your refrigerant use, both in terms of new refrigerants used, as well as reclaimed refrigerants.
We can offer, via our partners, a return or storage policy on any refrigerants reclaimed. The refrigerants will be sent to our partners to be cleaned to current standards and either by returned or stored off site for an agreed cost.
This will ensure that any R22 equipment still operating, can be serviced with refrigerant until 2015, when the use of reclaimed R22 will be phased out.
What if the R22 runs out, what can I do?
We have been planning for phase out of R22 for many years and have a range of alternative refrigerants that can replace R22 without much disruption. Our confidence in these products is now shown with our 3 month labour only warranty on any system retrofitted with these replacement refrigerants.
How long can my air conditioning system run for?
We estimate that manufacturers back up of R22 equipment will start declining in 2012 and beyond. They generally maintain back up for 10 years after the equipment model was phased out. Many air conditioning systems containing R22 where stopped being made by the end of 2001 and as such the back up will in the next few years.
The use of reclaim R22 or replacement refrigerants, is a short term option and you should tart planning now to change over any R22 equipment in the next 3 years to guarantee continued cooling.
Isn't new equipment better for the environment?
New equipment offers great advantages over your existing equipment. Improvements in technology allows reductions in energy use by up to 50%, which not only reduces running costs, it also reduces the carbon output and as such is better for the environment.
If you haven't got the budgets to buy the most economical systems now, use the reclaim R22 or replacement refrigerants, to extend the life of your current equipment and allow time to get the right budgets to replace the equipment with the best you can afford. The bigger the investment at the beginning, the better energy savings you should get. Buy on life cycle costs when you can, in the long term you will be better off.
Choose wisely, give yourself time and get it is right. Buying a cheap system will cost you and the earth more over the life of the equipment.
